मुख्यमंत्री योगी आदित्यनाथ ने चौरीचौरा कांड को लेकर कांग्रेस और पंडित जवाहरलाल नेहरू पर निशाना साधा। उन्होंने कहा कि जब चार फरवरी 1922 को चौरीचौरा की ऐतिहासिक घटना के बाद अंग्रेजों ने 172 देशभक्तों को फांसी की सजा सुनाई थी, तब पंडित जवाहरलाल नेहरू कहां थे? उस समय क्रांतिकारियों की कानूनी पैरवी के लिए महामना पंडित मदन मोहन मालवीय आगे आए थे।

There was congestion on both sides, hindering movement and creating total disarray. But it was then, when Kamlesh Paswan raised the question, 'Could a bridge be built here?'—Today, I am pleased that, alongside the Chauri Chaura Martyrs' Memorial, an excellent flyover has been constructed to facilitate local movement; a project that was once merely a vision has now become a reality..."

मुख्यमंत्री ने कहा कि कांग्रेस अक्सर पंडित जवाहरलाल नेहरू को देश का बड़ा अधिवक्ता बताती है, लेकिन चौरीचौरा कांड के समय उनकी भूमिका सामने नहीं आई। उन्होंने बताया कि पंडित मदन मोहन मालवीय ने प्रभावी पैरवी कर 151 क्रांतिकारियों को फांसी के फंदे से बचाया था। इनमें किसान, मजदूर, व्यापारी और युवा शामिल थे।
सीएम योगी ने देश में मौजूदा राजनीतिक परिस्थितियों और सड़कों पर हो रही राजनीति का जिक्र करते हुए राष्ट्रकवि रामधारी सिंह दिनकर की पंक्तियां भी उद्धृत कीं- 'अंधा चकाचौंध का मारा, क्या जाने इतिहास बेचारा?'
उन्होंने कहा कि चौरीचौरा की ऐतिहासिक घटना को याद करते समय उन देशभक्तों के बलिदान और महामना मदन मोहन मालवीय के योगदान को भी याद रखना चाहिए, जिन्होंने क्रांतिकारियों को फांसी से बचाने के लिए कानूनी लड़ाई लड़ी।
