Over 50,000 students and 1,000 faculty members in Andhra Pradesh will be introduced to computer science and imparted technology skills as part of an arrangement with global IT firm Oracle.
Institute of Electronic Governance (IEG) has extended its memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Oracle India to implement its computer science curriculum in 400 educational institutions in Andhra Pradesh. The project will be carried out through Oracle Academy, a wing of the US technology giant.
IEG has been founded under the Society for Knowledge Networks, a non-profit organisation, by the AP Government.
Under the MoU, 50,000 students and 1,000 faculty members in Andhra Pradesh will be introduced to computer science using Oracle technology in the academys “introduction to computer science and advanced computer science offerings, a release from the State Government said here today.
Additionally, Oracle Academy''s content and course-ware will be offered as elective modules in at least 100 institutions, it said.
As part of the MoU, 150 faculty members will take part in “Train the Trainer” courses, enabling them to use Oracle Academy infrastructure to train other teachers. The faculty training will begin in January.
The Oracle-IEG joint initiative will help students develop vital business and technology skills and help provide them with a competitive advantage as they enter the workforce. In India, more than 6,85,000 students from 31,000 educational institutions have benefited from Oracle Academy''s programmes over the last five years, the release said.
Ponnala Lakshmaiah, IT Minister of Andhra Pradesh said, the State has been at the forefront of creating a skilled technology workforce for India and global markets.
With changes in the global marketplace and increasing competition, it has become important for us to deliver advanced technology training to students to help them be successful in a complex, interconnected world, he said.
Yatin Kantak, Senior Director, Oracle India, said the academy offers a comprehensive programme that helps students gain industry relevant technology skills needed to succeed in today''s job market.
